There are a lot of other people out there just as interested in games as we
are. Everything from official websites for game companies to fansites that specialize
in maps can be found on the web. Some of the most useful sites for MOG players
are those that have a lot of information of different types (maps, message boards,
interviews, etc.). This is a list of some of the most useful websites we've
found that cover multiple games.
These links give you a way to talk to some of them and see what they're up
to. If you're looking for official game websites, check out the games
area.
Allakhazam.com (Everquest,
Anarchy Online, Dark Age of Camelot)
Excellent site when you are looking for information on any aspect of a game.
Allakhazam has the best quest/item/monster database on the internet -- and rounds
the whole package off with a usually comical "Thought of the Day".
Arbalister's AC2 Community
(Asheron's Call 2)
A brand-new site dedicated to the next generation of Asheron's Call. This ringer
has an array of user themes and lets you set up how you want the site to appear.
There are forums, a chat room, maps, and everything newsworthy about Asheron's
Call 2!
Blue's
News
Demos, screenshots, forums, and up-to-the-minute news make this site a must.
They have one of the most frequently updated news pages on the web devoted to
gaming news. And check out the .plan section for various developer ramblings.
Awesome.
Caster's Realm
www.castersrealm.com Originally an encyclopedic reference for spells and spellcasting
classes in the various games they cover, Caster's Realm has expanded to be a
general reference site for spells, skills, tactics, and other core gameplay
features. They are among the first to republish patch messages and other news
of changes, and Caster's Realm staffers go to fan faires to tape record and
publish transcripts of sessions.
Frictionless Insight
Previews, reviews, interviews, and news -- all the "ews" that're fit to
print. The best thing about this site is that it incorporates a lot of article
snippets (with links to the original articles) from all sorts of non-gaming
sources, including mainstream newspapers from around the world. If it impacts
gaming at all, it's probably mentioned here.
Game Banshee
Bits of game news with links, forums, editorials, interviews, previews,
reviews -- this is a full smorgasbord of updates. Add the Banshee Network, with
huge sections for several different games including DaoC and Shadowbane, and
what more could you want? The individual game sections also have screenshots,
databases and FAQs, making this a good site to bookmark for your gaming needs.
Gamers.com
Covers the basics, plus cheats and on-site games. While this site caters
more heavily to single-player and team-based games, it's still worth visiting
for MOG news. It's also definitely worth a visit if you're into multi-platform
gaming with its separate sections for PS2, Xbox, GameCube, GBA, and PC.
Gamespot
There's almost too much to name available on this great site. Multiplatform,
news and reviews, downloads, videos, tips, a full archive, editorials, surveys,
forums… Where do you start? There's plenty here to keep you busy on the free
access plan, or you can pay a small monthly fee for full access.
GameSpy
Keeps you up to date on games from all platforms. It provides you with reviews,
previews, general news, and scraps of information previously housed only in
the minds of the gamers themselves. They also have an arcade site to play games
for extra fun!
Gone Gold
This site specializes in keeping an up-to-date schedule of releases, along
with demos, patches, and reviews. Check out the "Road to Gold" section for games
in development. Two of the more unusual sections, well worth a visit, are the
"Weekly Value", which tells you which games are on sale in which stores, and
"Coders' Corner", with insights into game programming and the industry.
iGames
iGames is an organization of independent and franchised game centers working
together to prosper as a whole. iGames has established strong relationships
with a broad group of game industry leaders in order to provide a wide variety
of products, services and programs to member game centers and gamers.
IGN Vault
A full-service site with everything but drive-through. Cross-referenced
news/reviews/previews index by game, developer diaries, release dates, hardware
reviews, guides, codes, tips, FAQs, chat, boards -- even a game store. You could
get lost in this site. And that's just the free part. For a small fee, you can
get even deeper into the site. Don't forget to visit the RPG Vault section or
the massive list of Vault Network forums. And don't forget to pack the pizza
-- you're not coming out of this one for a while.
MMORPG
News bites, screenshots, and a fairly lengthy list of message boards make
this site well worth a visit. The list of official MMORPG websites is a bit
short for now, but it's still useful, and we're not making bets on how long
it will be a few months from now.
Multiplayer Online Games Directory
We could stay here for weeks. Editorials, news, forums, and one of the most
comprehensive game databases available, with multiple (and we do mean multiple)
search criteria. Click on the Advanced button, and you can even design your
own search. Want to search for a favorably rated Windows real-time RPG with
a free trial that's running an open Beta? We got your Legends right here…
OzGN -- The Nation
Files, guides, articles, extensive forums, hardware updates, free registration,
game servers -- this site may be tailored to Aussies, but it's got a lot going
for it for gamers everywhere. And while it's more focussed on single-player
and team-based games, the features and interface are so elegant that it's worth
the occasional visit to pick up MOG news. They even have their own forum and
news sections for GameGirls. You go!
Player2Player
Good news tidbits, reviews, and an extensive, active forum section can make
this a frequent stopping place for game fans. Add to that the fact that you
can also catch up on the news for non-computer games here (what a concept!),
and P2P is a must-see for those who still enjoy a bit of pen-and-paper gaming
with their MOGs.
RPG Lore Network
News and forums, some general, some based on a handful of individual games.
The boards are quite active, and we look for this site to grow with the release
of more MOGs in the future. The individual game sections also include maps,
FAQs, interviews, articles, files, guides, links, screenshots, fan fiction --
whew! Check it out -- if you play (or have been thinking of playing) one of
the games featured on the site, you'll find plenty to interest you.
Stratics
The 500-pound gorilla of MOG websites, Stratics has a well-deserved reputation
for being a strong support site for MOGs. The massive general area has it all,
with news, game information, a company index, chat, forums, developer debates,
and information on game design. Add to that the myriad sections on individual
games, with news, chats, forums, guides, FAQs, maps, screenshots and video,
fan fiction, and developer input, and you've got the Fort Knox of game information.
Don't miss it.
The Adrenaline Vault
Up-to-date news, demos and patches highlight this useful site, accompanied
by reviews and previews, articles, editorials, and specialized sections on hardware
and hints. The console section and extensive coverage of the world of eSports,
competitive multiplayer gaming, give this site enough variety to make it worth
repeat visits.
Voodoo Extreme
News, articles, patches, demos, with good cross-references to high-profile
stories. Add gaming forums, along with ones on hardware, software, and operating
systems, and this is a good spot to drop by.
Warcry News Network
Warcry definitely lives up to its name as a news network. General news and
a very active forum are supplemented by sections on various individual games.
The game sections include everything from maps, guides, articles and lore, to
special news items and updates about the latest quests and items.
